Maria P. Valdes
Education
Maria Valdes graduated from Florida International University with a major in Political Science and International Relations and a minor in Economics in 1992. Thereafter, Ms. Valdes attended and graduated from St. Thomas University School of Law.
Maria is a partner in the firm’s Miami Office concentrating her practice in the area of workers compensation defense representing self-insured employers, insurance carriers and third party administrators. She has vast experience handling catastrophic injury claims, traumatic brain injuries, occupational exposure/disease cases, and complex workers compensation litigation. Maria has a unique understanding of the healthcare industry and needs to self insured employers for multi-faceted team approach to claim handling based on over 20 years of defending their interests. Strong negotiation skills and solution oriented case handling coupled with in-depth understanding of new emerging issues within the field make Maria an aggressive advocate for her client. She has successfully defended countless cases throughout the State of Florida from the inception of the case through the trial and appellate stages.
She graduated from Florida International University with a major in Political Science and International Relations and a minor in Economics in 1992. Thereafter, Maria attended and graduated from St. Thomas University School of Law. She was a senior associate attorney at Marcos & Rothman, P.A for 7 years prior to becoming a partner in 2003. Maria has been a member of the Florida Bar Workers Compensation Section and the Friends of 440 since 1997.
Maria provides seminars to her clients on claims management and defending workers compensation claims including topics such as compensability, coverage, occupational disease, repetitive trauma, indemnity and medical benefits, and managed care arrangements. In her spare time, Maria enjoys reading and traveling and spending time with her husband and 2 children.
